OCTOBER 2018 NEWS

Mill Lane Community Primary School

The new school year is well under way and we have had a very busy, but fun, start to the year. The whole school celebrated harvest together with poems, songs, artwork and bread made by the Year 3 and 4 children. As usual, we asked our families to make a donation for the local Village Centre and Food Bank. We were delighted by the overwhelming generosity of the children and their parents. After our family celebration, we were able to take all of the food over to Annabel Junkin at the Village Centre who was surprised by the amount we had managed to collect. Thank you to everyone who donated items to our harvest celebration; they will benefit many in the community.

Recently, the whole school also gathered for a performance of Jungle Book. The children loved seeing their favourite characters come alive and who can’t help but sing a long with the songs. We are now looking forward to our annual trip to the pantomime where this year we will see one of our children performing in it. Continuing with the performing theme, our Year 5 and 6 children had the opportunity to play on African Marimbas which they can continue with in a lunchtime club. The children enjoyed trying out a new instrument and where soon able to play simple tunes.

Finally, we are looking forward to our next open morning on Wednesday 17th October where you will be able to look round all the classes as well as stop for some refreshments as we will be selling cakes to raise money for Macmillan Cancer. Don’t forget our annual fireworks night on November 2nd

The Windmill Community Nursery

Welcome to another school year at Windmill Nursery. Our new children have settled quickly and the older children have successfully transitioned to their new Reception classes – what a fantastic start!

This term our story is ‘The Scarecrow’s Hat’ which introduces Harvest and Autumn time. On a cold sunny morning, we wandered through Gruffland (our environmental area) and spotted apples, spider webs, berries, rosehips and tiny creatures under logs. We crept into the bird hide but didn’t see any birds –maybe they had heard us!! Back at Nursery, Mrs Sanders helped us to make a delicious crumble with all the apples we collected. To celebrate Harvest time, we joined with Reception and invited parents to come along. All the children were amazing as this was their first time performing together in the big school hall. Our Windmill scarecrows sang and danced fantastically!

We look forward to sharing lots more news with you this year. If you would like to know more about our Nursery, please see our website www.windmillnurserychinnor.co.uk or come and visit. Everyone is very welcome.
