Class 4's Isolation - Starting Wednesday 7th July 2021
Friday 9th July: Update for Next Week
Hi Class 4!
I hope that your isolation is going well so far. Did you watch the football on Wednesday night? What a great game! I am looking forward to the final on Sunday - Come on England!
You will see that I have now uploaded the timetable and extra resources for next week's home learning so that you can have a look at them before Monday. Please email me if you have any questions.
Our maths work continues with the theme of time and the Oak Academy Science and English activities also carry on from the session you have already done. If you would like a different writing focus for the week, check out the 'Bushcraft Writing Challenge' section. You'll be able to look at the photos on here on the website (don't forget to show your parents) and then use these as inspiration for your writing. I look forward to seeing who takes up this challenge...
We will have Teams calls on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. Monday's call will be another chance to discuss any of the activities for the week; Wednesday's call will be a quiz and I would like you all to think of at least one question that you can then email to me for this. Thursday's call will be a scavenger hunt challenge so that we can end our isolation with a bit of fun!
On the timetable, I have left some of Thursday's learning slots empty so that you can catch up on any activities if you need to. Don't forget to visit our online platforms (Purple Mash, Dyslexia Gold, Bug Club and Spelling Frame) every day to complete your activities there.
All being well, I look forward to seeing you back in school in person on Friday.
Have a good week and thanks in advance for all of your hard work!
Mr Thompson
Dear Class 4,
Good morning! It was, for me, a big surprise to wake up this morning and find out we wouldn't be going to school and would have to isolate again. I will really miss seeing you all for the next few days but I am glad that we will still be back in school before the end of term.
Like me, you are probably all a bit rusty with doing home learning so please 'ease in' gently and don't forget that parents can email me directly on the class4@mill-lane.oxon.sch.uk email address and children can email me directly through the Purple Mash platform. Please don't hesitate to get in touch - I am here to help.
I have uploaded resources and links to suggested home learning activities and also provided you with a timetable, if you want to use it. It would be good if you stuck to the right day for each activity but, like before, you can choose the time that you complete it to fit in with everything else that will be happening at home.
Because you will be familiar with them, we will use the White Rose Maths and Oak Academy Literacy videos this week. We will hold a whole class Teams meeting on Friday to see how things have gone and discuss the tasks for the days we will not be in school next week.
You have all worked so hard in school recently and I have been so proud of the determination of each and every one of you. In the last week or so, we have also undertaken a lot of assessments, which I know must have felt a bit dauting after such a long time. Well done for giving them your best! You will probably all be feeling a little bit tired, as is often the way at this time of year so remember to take each of these activities in your stride. There's no need to rush and, if you're finding something difficult, let me know and I'll be there to help.
I have set up a Purple Mash blog, so please feel free to share anything that is appropriate. It is important that everyone stays in touch.
When you have finished work, please upload it to your Purple Mash folder (like we did before) and then I will be able to see what you have done every day.
Here's a quick rundown of the tasks:
Maths: We will be carrying on from yesterday's work on time. We have already looked at Friday's activity briefly (in case you think you have already done it before)
English: As it's trickier to continue our current writing, I have uploaded two units of work from the Oak Academy. One is based around reading and one around writing. You can choose to do one or the other (or both if you want a challenge).
Science/Topic: I have included some lessons on Sustainability, which link very well with our current topic on recycling. I think you will find these very interesting and you will hopefully already know a lot to give you a head-start.
Art: Now that the summer is here, I would like you to produce a piece of artwork that reflects this time of year. You could go out into your garden (if you have one) and draw some summer plants/flowers. Or, you could draw a picture that reflects the summer in some way, like of a favourite place you have been on holiday. This could be a drawing, painting, collage or use any other media. Don't forget to visit 'Draw with Rob' for some inspiration or additional practice.
ICT: Please log in to Purple Mash and find your 'To Do' activity there
Other Daily Activities: Please log into Spelling Frame, Dyslexia Gold, Bug Club and Purple Mash daily to complete activities there. You should be spending between 20 minutes to half an hour on the first three. Activities on Purple Mash will vary in length.
I will upload next week's activities on Friday, as this will give you a chance to have a look at them over the weekend and I will be more than happy to answer any queries you might have.
Good luck and remember it's not going to be for too long. Hopefully the sun will shine for us and we will be able to spend some time outdoors too.
See you soon,
Mr Thompson
