Welcome to the Class 2 page!
Useful info:
Forest school days: Thursday afternoons
P.E days: Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
We had a wonderful first term immersing ourselves into our topic 'Castles and dragons'. The children kicked off with a dress up day and a D&T build a castle day. We had a Castles workshop where the children were handling real life medieval artifacts. Our class read was ' The boy who lived with dragons' by Andy Shepherd which inspired the children's writing where they wrote instructions in how to look after a baby dragon. The children got to use the Minecraft education app to design and build their own castle showcasing all the features they had learned about. We made good use of the NowPressPlay wireless headphones to listen to an immersive story which took us on a journey back in time where we had to help a young knight on a mission who comes into counter with dragons.
Now we have started term 2 we have another exciting topic to hook our learning onto. 'Up, up and away' in this topic the children will be learning about everything that flies. This will include: hot air balloons, biplanes, aeroplanes, hovercrafts, helicopters, spacecrafts, kites, birds, insects... you name it we will be exploring it.
The children will learn about some important pioneers such as the Wright brothers, Amelia Earhart and the Montgolfier brothers. This will inspire our writing and the children will write postcards and a diary entry. We will be investigating flight in science and running a number of experiments to do with lift.
In Art we are going to investigate mark making which will inspire us to make hot air balloons, looking at the colourful patterns and designs.
In maths we are working on addition and subtraction for the first few weeks and move onto shape. Our work on shape will in turn help with the designs we create for the hot air balloons.
This term we have moved from our phonics lessons into our 'bridge to spelling' lessons - I will be sending out more information on this in due course.
All of this on top of our Christmas Nativity extravaganza! More details for this will follow.
