Year 1

Forest School at Mill Lane encourages independent, enthusiastic, resilient and creative learners who will develop holistically through a well-planned child initiated approach to learning.

We are very lucky to have such wonderful school grounds here at Mill Lane.  The outdoor area consists of 5 natural areas; Gruffland, the field, the hedgerow, the wildflower meadow and the woodland area. Its diverse flora and fauna adds to the natural classroom and supports a Forest School programme.

Forest School covers all aspects of children’s learning; a holistic approach to development.

Some of the planned activities which the children may experience are:

  • Den building
  • Cooking on a campfire
  • Natural artwork
  • Using tools
  • Making charcoal
  • Flora and fauna identification
  • Exploring the natural environment
